Water Bore Drilling

Secure Your Water Supply

By tapping into North Queensland’s underground aquifers, you can secure a reliable, endless supply of water for your lawns, gardens, livestock, or commercial projects. Whether you are battling a dry Townsville winter or looking to bypass rising council water rates, a professionally drilled water bore is a lifetime investment in self-sufficiency.

At Henry’s Drilling, we don’t just drill holes; we deliver complete, turnkey groundwater solutions tailored specifically to the unique geological conditions of the Townsville and surrounding regional areas.

Our Water Bore Services

We cater to a wide range of groundwater needs across Townsville, including:

Domestic & Garden Bores

Stop worrying about strict Townsville water restrictions.

A domestic water bore provides free, nutrient-rich water to keep your lawns lush, your gardens thriving, and your pool topped up all year round.

Rural, Stock & Irrigation Bores

For acreage owners and agricultural properties in the outer Townsville regions, water security is everything. We drill high-yield sub-artesian bores designed to supply stock feed-lots, crop irrigation systems, and hobby farms through the harshest dry seasons.

Commercial & Industrial Bores

We provide high-output commercial drilling solutions for construction sites, civil works, dust suppression, and industrial complexes requiring independent, high-volume water access.

Why Choose Henry's Drilling?

If you are a Townsville local, you likely already know Robert Henry. As the owner and operator of Henry’s Landcare, Henry’s Pools, and now Henry’s Drilling, Robert has spent years helping local property owners transform their outdoor spaces.

When you work with us, you aren’t dealing with a nameless corporate contractor. You get:

Local Knowledge

We know the Townsville water tables, soil types, and rock layers—from the coastal sands of Bushland Beach to the tough, rocky clay of Kirwan and the outer suburbs.

Fully Licensed & Compliant

All bores deeper than 6 metres in Queensland legally require a licensed water bore driller. We manage the entire process in strict compliance with the Queensland Water Act 2000.

State-of-the-Art Equipment

Our modern, high-efficiency drilling rigs are engineered to handle the tough North Queensland ground while minimising impact on your lawns and landscaping.

End-to-End Solutions

Because of our background in landcare and pool installations, we don’t just drill and leave. We can assist with pump selection, trenching, and integrating your new bore directly into your existing irrigation systems.

Our Step-by-Step Drilling Process

  1. Site Assessment & Water Divining: We evaluate your property layout, identify overhead/underground utilities, and utilize hydrogeological data (and traditional water divining) to locate the best drilling site.
  2. Drill Planning & Approvals: We check local water plans and ensure all drilling sites comply with minimum distance requirements from septic tanks, boundaries, and neighboring bores.
  3. Drilling & Sinking Casing: We drill down to the aquifer and install durable, high-pressure PVC casing to prevent the bore hole from collapsing and block out surface contaminants.
  4. Bore Development & Flushing: We clean and flush the bore to remove sand and clay sediment, ensuring the water runs crystal-clear.
  5. Yield & Quality Testing: We test the water flow rate (litres per minute) and check the water quality, providing you with a complete drill log for your records.

Frequently Asked Questions (FAQs)

Do I need a licence or permit to drill a water bore in Townsville?

In Queensland, taking water solely for domestic or stock-watering purposes is generally exempt from water licensing requirements under local water plans.

However, if you plan to use the water for commercial irrigation, business operations, or industrial purposes, you will likely need a water licence.

We can help you check your property’s eligibility before we begin.

The depth varies wildly depending on your specific suburb.

Coastal areas might hit clean water at just 6 to 12 metres, while inland properties or elevated rocky areas may need to go down 30 to 60+ metres to tap into a high-yielding, reliable aquifer.

“Bore stain” (the reddish-brown staining often seen on fences and concrete) is caused by high iron levels in certain groundwater pockets.

During our testing process, we check the mineral levels of your water.

If your bore has high iron content, we can advise on specialised filtration systems or keep your irrigation sprayers directed away from your physical structures.

Historically, “wells” were wide, shallow, hand-dug holes.

Modern “bores” are narrow, deep, machine-drilled holes lined with heavy-duty casing.

Bores are much safer, tap into deeper and cleaner aquifers, and are far less likely to dry up during a drought.
